The second largest city within the Jammu division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Udhampur is a lush green area replete with eucalyptus forests. This city is the district capital of the Udhampur district and is a strategically important city for India as it sits close to the Pakistan border and thus, the Northern command headquarters for the Indian military is based out of there. To support the troops, the Forward Base Support Unit, which is an arm of the Indian Air force, is also situated here which operates out of the Udhampur Air Force Station. However, Udhampur also has many places of interest in and around the city to explore. The Kiramchi temples located on the Udhampur-Jammu highway are a particular attraction in Udhampur along with other temples in the region such as the Chountra Devi, Babore Temples, Pingla Devi, and places of heritage such as Ramnagar Fort, Sheesh Mahal, and many others.

Udhampur is known as a summer destination due to temperatures being pleasant during this time but some people may want to visit during the winter months as well seeking to experience the cold winters of this region. The months from March to June see an influx of tourists when the weather is at its best and ideal for sightseeing. Udhampur tends to be quite cold during the winter months with the temperatures can drop to 1 or 2 degrees Celsius or even hit zero.

By Rail : Udhampur has its own railway station which is connected by multiple express trains such as the Delhi - Udhampur Jammu Mail, Delhi Sarai Rohilla Udhampur AC Superfast Express, Uttar Sampark Kranti Express. Many other trains from Jammu have been extended to connect this city as well.

By Road : As Udhampur is only 70 km from Jammu, it is easily accessible by many buses running on this route. Most of the bus services are run by the JKSRTC or the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation, which have regular services from Jammu to Udhampur. Udhampur is well connected to Srinagar and Jammu as multiple buses plying between them usually pass through Udhampur.
